Framework 2040 Comprehensive Plan Engagement - Round 2

Each tab represents areas that the Comprehensive Plan will address. Within each topic area is a series of statements. These statements summarize public feedback from the first round of outreach.

With feedback from the second round of outreach, these statements will be refined into clear goals that are supported by specific policies. Please read the following statements in each of the four topic areas, and respond to them to ensure the Comprehensive Plan’s direction aligns with the preferences of the community.

Land Use/ Housing/ Safety

Land Use/ Housing/ Safety Statements

  • Maintain coordinated patterns of development to promote efficient land use and infrastructure improvements.
  • Encourage a high quality of life through thoughtful planning and investment in infrastructure, health, and safety.
  • Strengthen public safety conditions through proactive leadership, clear direction, and comprehensive education to foster a secure environment for all.
  • Work on housing for targeted populations while respecting existing homeowners and residents for their rights to guide change in their communities.
  • Housing developments should support a diverse range of buyers (young families, first-time buyers, seniors, etc.) to support opportunities for affordable home ownership.
  • Support projects that meet high standards of design and construction.
  • Maintain a sustainable level of local food production to support a steady food supply and support healthy eating choices.
  • Within county islands, collaborate with municipalities to proactively shape development plans and ensure harmonious coexistence between non-residential uses and existing residential neighborhoods.

Transportation/ Open Space

Transportation/ Open Space Statements

  • Provide a comprehensive transportation system (motorized and non-motorized) that meets the needs of all users.
  • Seek to improve the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the transportation system.
  • Foster regional collaboration to enhance transportation implementation.
  • Leverage technology to help facilitate the movement of vehicles and people across the county.
  • Protect and expand the regional park system.
  • Support appropriate public access to recreational lands.
  • Provide regional leadership in open space and trail planning.

Environment/ Water/ Energy

Environment/ Water/ Energy Statements

  • Protect our air and water quality.
  • Safeguard the natural biodiversity of the region.
  • Strengthen our ability to respond to hazards (i.e. flooding, excessive heat, etc.).
  • Contribute to the endurance of the region’s water supply.
  • Provide leadership for water conservation in the region.
  • Increase energy efficiency to reduce the need for new energy generation sources.
  • Take a leadership role in coordinating with solid waste haulers to implement waste management practices that reduce landfill use and minimize environmental impacts.

Economy/ Cost of Development

Economy/ Cost of Development Statements

  • Foster a diverse and balanced economy.
  • Cultivate a thriving business environment to attract, retain, and support innovative companies and a skilled workforce.
  • Prioritize technology and healthcare related industries.
  • Take the lead on developing partnerships that advance an integrated regional economy.
  • Exercise sound financial management to ensure that development projects contribute positively to the county’s fiscal stability.
